Especially given how much she had been through before arriving. Mami had seen demons and fallen angels alike, each of them powerful enough to scare a normal human silly. But then, she had been on the brink of death before entering that world. It was either fight those fallen angels or die with no mark left remaining on the world. There had only been one natural choice for her.[break][break] It was impossible to forget what had happened. For a brief moment, she wasn't alone anymore. That single instant where her battles hadn't just been about her, but about Sayaka and Madoka as well. This place had people, but none were like those girls. People who had inspired her and brought meaning to her life beyond simply defending her territory and stopping the Witches. Here there was nothing like that, she was sure.[break][break] Looking up at each door she passed, one name finally caught her eye. A familiar name which belonged to a person that had caused her much trouble in the past. Her golden orbs locked onto the two words and ended up staring at them for some time, trying to figure out how she could be here after everything that Mami had seen her do.[break][break] "Akemi Homura..." she muttered to herself, still looking at the name.[break][break] Finally the blonde would face the door and raise her hand to her chin. Why would she be here? There was no reason that Mami could think of as to why. Then again, she didn't have much choice other than to come here either. But neither would she have denied the chance for a new start like this was a gift from above. Even if it did mean that she had to be alone once again.[break][break] Then again loneliness was a familiar place to Tomoe Mami. She had been doing normal chores. Cleaning her guns, replenishing her bomb supply, making sure there were cleaning supplies stashed in her pocket dimension, that sort of thing. Right now, all of her guns were lying in two piles on the floor - clean and unclean - and she was slowly adding to the clean one. Homura had no expectation of being visited at all that day, only Nikki as he got home, and as such was wearing lazy clothes. Ripped jeans and a dirty t-shirt. No one was supposed to see her this way, this messy. So when a notification blew up on her phone that her pizza was outside the building, she'd donned a jacket and hurried out, lest she be noticed. [break][break]

After paying the man with a large pile of single bills, she'd hurried back up to her apartment, steaming pizza in one hand, keys in the other. Homura took the stairs two at a time, going much faster than the elevator, until she was a mere ten paces from the front door of her apartment. Of course, as she turned the corner, there was a pair of familiar golden curls standing right outside her door, looking up squarely at the nameplate. Of course. As if she couldn't take a day off to clean her guns in peace. [break][break]

"What do you want?" Homura asked, sighing and moving to open her door. She hadn't seen Mami in ages, but she'd moved on. They weren't particularly close, and she'd seen some of the darker sides of the older girl. Was she even older now? What timeline had she come from? The black-haired girl had seen people come from various points of time in the same universes, she'd read the files for work, but... There were near-infinite possibilities for where Mami had come from, and she would probably need to figure them out before she got too far in conversing with her. [break][break]

She gently pushed past the other magical girl and opened her apartment, walking in and setting the pizza on the counter. "What are you looking at? Are you going to come in, or what? This pizza is going to get cold."

Yes she had been standing in front of the other girl's house, but that didn't mean she had expected Akemi Homura to return home at that very moment. But keeping her head held high just as she always did, the blonde turned around to face the other Magical Girl. She looked just the same as she remembered even though they had only met a few times. Then again those few times had also been on the battlefield so perhaps this could also lead to hostility. But she would be ready. Akemi Homura was no match for her at any rate.[break][break] "I happen to live in this apartment. Although I admit I didn't expect to see you here Akemi." A confident smile fitted confidently onto her fact as she uttered those words, but faded as the other girl simply walked past. From what she could remember, the purple Magical Girl was always self-serving and fighting the Witches for her own purposes... then again this wasn't the world she was used to. For all she knew this could be a different Akemi Homura to the one she had dealt with in the past. There was no chance to let her guard down.[break][break] The offer was a surprise. After all Magical Girls each had their own motives and their own areas to fight, it was rare for them to be in such close proximity. But then again, Mami had found little reason to guess that this area was protected by another Magical Girl much less one that even possessed Witches. Along those lines, it should theoretically be fine for her to accept the offer. The idea of pizza wasn't quite as appealing as her usual diet nor was it particularly dignified but... perhaps this was the best course of action. Akemi hadn't attacked her yet after all.[break][break] "Well, then thank you for the hospitality." [break][break] Taking a step inside, Mami steeled herself for anything that may happen now. Although she had to admit she was hesitant to move any further than where she now stood just inside the apartment after closing the door behind her. Homura willed herself to try to deal with Mami tactfully, and steeled herself to make sure her face looked remotely interested as the other girl spoke. Of course it had to happen that there were other magical girls in the apartment building; and based on the way Mami was acting, it was as if she had something her. Based on the way Homura had spoken to her, she wouldn't have put it past the blonde to be a little peeved, but this seemed like straight-up passive aggressiveness. Then again, it was just pizza. [break][break]

Noticing that Mami had closed the door behind herself, and "accepted" the offer of hospitality, Homura pulled out some plates, glancing over at the piles of guns on the floor. Hopefully, that wouldn't be too much of an issue, or it would be looked past. She put a slice on each plate, and went to sit at the small table she and Nikki had, putting one plate in front of herself and the other where Mami would probably end up sitting. Folding her pizza and taking a couple bites, she figured that they could linger in silence before speaking about whatever matter happened to be at hand. Normally, she would've tended to care about image, what with strings of cheese in the air between her and the greasy pizza, but she had half a mind to go along with this and see where it took her. "So, Tomoe-san, as I said earlier: what do you want? Why are you here?" she asked plainly, giving the other girl a look. "We've never been the best of friends, though, I suppose, depending on who you ask." It mattered when she would ask, too, and that was probably the most pressing matter here to discuss. If Mami had been from the last timeline, the one where Madoka removed witches, then they weren't particularly friendly. If she was from after Madoka's wish, they would be on good terms. Some of the other timelines had vastly different results, as well; Mami could be anywhere from a mentor to Homura or trying to kill her. [break][break]

Well, if she was trying to kill her, it would have to happen after the pizza was consumed. Homura finished her slice, before getting up to get another, and then resumed her interrogation after she sat down again. "This may seem like an odd question, but I'd like you to describe what was happening right before you were taken here."
